Biography
Palestinian artist born in Al-Breij area, lives and works in Gaza.
Mohamed Abusal is a professional artist whose time is spent between art research and painting and giving art lessons to children. Abusal is prolific and in a few years has produced several series. One set deals with Palestinians’ love of their land and the different realities of separation and exile. The series presented in this exhibition are abstracted figures and faces either in groups or alone exploring identity through color and image. In his most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill up his canvas - the cactus plant being a familiar Palestinian symbol.

In Abusal’s work the cactus, which he paints in warm greens, ochre, browns and reds, are sometimes passionate and raging, and other times, stoic and resilient.
